08' Sportsman 500 H.O.
#1
looking at the polaris web site and noticed that the only colors for the H.O. are green & red. are these the only colors??? the efi has a more color selection but the plastic is all the same or am i missing something. i know the efi has advantages over the carb but the carb is something anyone could work on and for riding i do the efi doesnt seem worth the extra 1000.00

$1000 is a bit steep for EFI. I ride and ride with a efi 500 and it has no power advantage thats for sure but I think it suppose to get better gas mileage but $1000 buys alot of gas. I hear they are suppose to start up better in the cold but mine starts up in the middle of the winter easily (see Pics) can,t see how it can get much easier.
ATVs use the "Throttle Body" Injection which is the most simple type of EFI and the closest to carburetion in operation. Fuel is injected above the throttle blades by one fuel injector nozzles. Both fuel and air are carried throughout the entire intake tract.
They do not use the much more sophisticated "Port Fuel Injection" or "Direct Fuel Injection" found in automobiles.

man i just cant believe that you would have to buy the efi version to get a black of camo wheeler. i am not knocking the efi i am sure there are alot of people out there who have it and love it but just as you said its not like your regular vehicle set up with o2 sensors and all that jazz.
another thing is that sportsman 400 is $500 less than the 500 h.o.

The 400 Sportsman is really a 455cc ATV and well worth looking at.

there is no doubt in my mind that the 455 will dominate the atv world. that has to be one bad wheeler with all that power on the hawkeye platform. i have a hawkeye and love it but said from the beginning that it needed more power but i didn't buy it to go rack deep in the mud, i love how compact and nimble it is but if i was to upgrade i think i would step up to the full size machine. like i said the mid-size atv with a 455 would be super sweet but having the hawkeye is enough for me. i probably would have snagged up the 455 if it was available last year.

Not sure about the 500, put the 800 has two fuel injectors, one at each intake port. There IS a throttle body, just not throttle body injection.
The new Sportsman 400 should be an awesome bike, I just can't believe they left the rear suspension the same as the previous two years, WAY TOO STIFF!
