Stolen Polaris
#1
I live in the western part of NC and on the night of 01/13/08 several Polaris units were stolen from a local dealer. The suspects cut the fence and opened the crated units and loaded them into a enclosed trailer that also was stolen from the area. My guess is that they may be headed to Georgia, if anyone has any info on this incident please let me know. You can also contact the Haywood County sheriff's office at 828-452-6669 and ask for Detective Russ Conner. Thanks for any help guys, this just ticks me off because we all have to bust our butts to buy and pay for our rigs and some jerk just busts in on a local business and steals what they want. Oh by the way they got away with around $200,000 worth of Rangers and Sportsmans!

Yeah I keep mine out of sight out of mind! I live in Waynesville, and not too far from the dealer where this went down. The dealer is right on the 23/74 and I dont understand how no one saw them loading the atvs up. I guess the crooks have all the luck, better keep our rigs locked up for a while because it seems once they start stealing in one area more will be taken before they die down. Keep your eyes peeled for anyone snooping around, they might be casing your area.

Near our town, thieves parked a flatbed semi on the interstate(75) and cut the wall out of a tractor sales and cut open the key box and drove the tractors down the ramp and loaded them onto the trailer on the interstate and got clean away. Everytime I inch above the speed limit, there is the fuzz. Wasn't that N.C. where they just gave that boy a speeding ticket on a bicycle and the fine was $1,000? I am not sure if that was or not, but I think a lot of our police have the wrong priorities. Just to clear the air, I have only had 5 speeding tickets in over 40 yrs. of driving, but heck haven't sped much more than that. Hope they catch those guys. My pole barn was broken into about 2 yrs. ago, the sheriff said they were looking for quads. They got my log splitter and a lot of nice tools. They were caught, but I did not get anything back. Must have made a nice sheriffs sale.

This brings up a question. As buyers of used machines, is there a central database or somewhere we can call with a Polaris serial number to see if the machine was stolen? Every now and then you come across a used machine for sale that has little or no hours on it, and a price that seems too good to be true.
As a buyer, how can we verify that a Polaris we are looking at has not been stolen? Does anyone know?

You can call your dealer with the vin number and they can run it on Polaris' webpage and it will tell if it is stolen or not(If Polaris has been notified) We had a used 700 stolen a few years back and Polaris verified it through their Unit Inquiry link on the dealer webpage)
