Default help? My polaris 1999 xplorer wont start

I have a 1999 polaris 400 xplorer and the thing has been runing great all of the sudden it acts like the battery dead and the starter wont engage i can pull start it and it runs fine, after a while with it runing I can cut it off and try to restart with the switch the thing wont turn over just a little thing like a control module besides the battery just clicks loadly every now and then you can hear the starter try to engage but it wont, the battery seems to be fully charged because the lights are very bright and the neutal light is strong and dosn't dim when i try to start from the power I use trying to start I was wondering how i could check the starter and what do I have to remove to get to it not sure wheres its located its a 400cc 2stroke, or is there a coil anywhere thats not juicing the starter and can any one tell me what the little wire that comes from the little box beside the battery thats black and looks like its got some kind of shrink tubing on it. Can anyone please help

do you hear a clicking sound every time you hit the starter button, if not, check all of your connections, sometimes they get corroded or broke, go from the positive battery cable to the starter solenoid and make sure connections are tight and clean, then if you still have intermittent clicking then the starter solenoid is bad. but make sure teh battery is fully charged or work with a known good battery.

just follow the positive battery cable, and where the other end hooks up to, that is the starter solenoid

common problem on the xplorer. the IDIOTS that designed this quad desided to put the starter motor on the bottom so any water that gets in there runs directly into your starter and eventually will rust your brushes in the motor and cant get a good connection. either clean the brushes in the motor, or just get new brushes, they are listed as starter rebuild kit
