TRX350D - no spark and I'm tearing my hair out
#1
Hi folks!
New here and I'm already on the scrounge for help!
I have an '88 model TRX350D with no spark, and I get the feeling that I've either exhausted all avenues of testing or am overlooking something particularly simple and stupid.
The first question has to be: Does anyone out there have a wiring diagram for this model??
I managed to obtain the diagram for the '87 model but there are a few key differences, and nearly all with the ignition system.
The list of testing so far is as follows;
Tested and eliminated coil
Continuity tested every ignition-related circuit in the wiring harness/loom
Replaced faulty pickup coil
Replaced burnt-out phase wire from generator coil (including the single phase exciter to the cdi) and bench tested generator windings.
Checked operation of the engine kill/stop circuits.
Eliminated the fuel pump relay as a possible cause of the ignition pulse being earthed.
Aaaaaand....
Everything seems to check out but still no spark!!
From what I can tell I've now tested everything except the cdi itself (would like to get a wiring diagram to be sure), and not only can I not get any test data for it but my local specialist can't either.
So - Question number 2: Any ideas???
Thanks & Regards
Dom

On a 400ex the test for the ignition control module is to verify that the rest of the system is working. I'm not sure if this applies here or not. It would explain why there is no test data available. Just a thought.

I had the same experience on my 1988. It turned out to be the cdi computer. The good news is the changes you talked about made it compatible with up to and including 2000 foreman 400. That is the box I am running and it seems to work fine.

On second thought...you don't need this emotional roller coaster. Just let me know where to come to you and I will get that old thing out of your sight before quick!
