So after talking with a bunch of people on this lovely forum and off of it, ive narrowed my search down to a Honda 400ex, and a Yamaha Warrior 350. any pro's and con's of either bike? ive heard lots of good stuff about them.. but i wanna know the bad stuff. anything either of these is known for breaking or going bad?

You'll get more enjoyment out of the 400ex. If I had to choose between the 2 the ex would be the one.

may i ask for more then "Zomg the suzuki totally ownz it." id like reasoning behind the suggestion please =D and yes it will be alot of woodland tighter trails, not all of it, but most of my riding will be on tighter area trails, with the occasional open area riding.

I agree with them too.
The Z400 has always been just a little better than the 400 EX. A little better power, better suspension - in a comparison between the two the Z always comes out ahead. It could be as simple as the fact that the Z was designed several years after the Honda EX came out. While the difference between them is not great, it definately favors the Z. OTOH, the Honda EX 400 is a far better bike than the Warrior (Raptor) 350. Even though the Raptor has new plastic and a few other improvements, the Warrior/Raptor 350 is still a dated design from the 80's.

The warrior is much older technology than both. The honda isn't top of the line stuff like the z400 is, but is still more refined than the warrior. After owning a warrior for 3 years i've found that they have a lot of little quirks and inconveniences that are common with all of them. The engines are bulletproof, but not as powerful as most, and the suspension falls short compared to most other sport quads on the market. They are also heavier than other machines in it's class.

after talking with alot of z400 and 400ex owners, i have pretty much made up my mind for the 400ex, while it may not be as refined or fast, i've picked up that its a heapload more reliable and can take the kind of abuse im going to throw at it. (plus its cheaper and there are some for sale locally, as the only z400's for sale are much further away.)

I was riding a Warrior before most of the kids in this forum were born. It was the worst handling machine I ever owned!!! I was never so happy as the day in 99 when I got rid of the Warrior and got a nice new 400EX....that should say volumes!!!

For a first quad I would go with the 400EX. You can always get a Z400 or one of the 450's for a 2nd quad.
