when the motor is cold remove the radiator cap and start it ,see if the water is moving thru it or if its just still also look for bubbles in the system while running which could indicate a warped head or leaking head gasket

Have you checked to see if the fan comes on? The thermal fan switch went on my 96 Sport 400 not allowing the fan to come on and leading to overheating. I wired the fan to a switch to correct the problem.

I have the same problem how did you wire the fan to come on with the switch ? did you connect it to the battery? what wires did you connect to? some instruction or pictures would be great.

It's actually very simple - locate your thermal switch on the radiator, unplug the wires (there are 2 wires to the thermal switch - 1 comes from the ignition switch power, the other goes to the radiator fan) - splice in a heavy duty toggle switch between the 2 wires you unplugged from the thermal switch.

Ujoint is right. It's a pretty simple fix. That's just what I did and for the last year I've had no overheating problems.

thermostat sticking not alowing water to flow threw would show the same as a bad water pump.
