Polaris 2-ups....Anyone have any experience?
#1
I am interested in purchasing one of the new Polaris 2 ups due to the fact that my daughter is getting older and taller. At 8 years of age, the top of her helmet bounces off the chin of mine everytime we go riding on my Stealth. I looked at the new 800 2 up that will come in Stealth black as a special edition complete with the dump box and upgraded tires. There is a storage container that fits nicely in the dump box around the seat which makes it look like a throne back there. Thought this would be a good solution to my helmet bouncing woes. Does anyone have any experience with this two up??? If so, please let me know how it's been going.

I don't think the 800cc comes with the dump bed. I think it is a regular rack that the nice seat snaps into. The X2 model comes with the seat that converts to a dump bed when not using the seat. It is not as high or as comfortable as the touring models are. I have the X2 and it works well with a passenger on the fold up seat. The passenger is more or less at the same seat height as the driver. Not much of issue with helmets banging unless you come to a very quick stop. On the X2 the passenger is less likely to be able to look straight ahead. The Touring models are better suited for comfort. Hope this helps.

Actually, the x2 800cc with the dump bed is being offered as a special edition in the stealth black available in March. I like the utility of the dump bed and the bag that goes around the seat is very nice. My daughter is only 8 so it should kind of surround her in the event she gets tired. Thanks for the info.

From the looks of this line-up, I think Mud Hog is correct about the 800 X2 Stealth black. Would be a very nice machine for sure! I'd choose the X2 over the Touring model just for the dump bed. I've always liked that feature.

Okay, I stand corrected. I thought it was kind of odd that they discontinued the 800 X2 and made a 700 X2 while discontinuing the regular 700 Sportsman and having only the 800 and 500 for the big machines. If anyone knows the link to the Special Editions I'd like to see one. I saw a Stealth Black Sportsman 800 when we went up to NH last Sunday and it looked sharp.

My son is 10 and my daughter is 6. I ride both of them on my X2 (not at the same time of course). I don't think wedging a bag on the sides and behind the seat will keep the passenger from sliding around. The passenger has to be able to hold on to the handles to keep themselves from coming off the seat. My son has the hang of it. My my daughter is still learning. I have to be very careful with her on the back. I use bungy cords to strap her on (I'M JUST KIDDING).
Also, when you are riding by yourself with the passenger seat down, you have to be careful. If you ride aggressively, the handles and the small seat back can give you a heck of a kidney shot or ding the lower back up pretty good.

We got X2 ( dump box ) and most of the time in winter trail, we ride together on the same quad. My wife like the x2 alot....for the passenger position and comfort is pretty decent for one day ride ( 100 miles usualy we did ). We got Polaris x2 satchel on each side of the rear passenger for good carrying stuff.
We had the passenger foot riser of the x2 touring. My wife complain about the height of the leg....She's 5.6" and now with the riser the position are well....

My daughter is an experienced rider and she knows how to hold on and lean. She has been riding with me since she was two and has had her own bike which she rides under adult supervision since she was four. I look to the bags just to soften things up for her and keep her from sliding back and forth as much.
I like the idea of the foot risers for her and will look into those. Great idea. I also wondered about the potential of the kidney shot as mentioned. I don't think you can really get around that. Just have to watch the bumps.
