Hey guys

my battery on my 05 rancher is just about dead

does anyone know of a brand/ model number that has more "power"? i know that is not the correct term, but what i mean is more juice basically. And also the same size as the original? or should i just get an OEM replacement from say ROckymountain or the dealer??

It might not be the size of your battery but how you keep it maintained. If you purchase a Battery Tender this will prolong the life of your new battery tremendously. Float charge keeps battery fully charged. Just plug it in after every ride. If you have bike sitting for any prolonged period between rides the Battery Tender is IMO invaluable and will pay for itself.

If it's the original, the battery is 3-4 years old. It should have lasted a bit longer than that. But if it's dead, it's dead and not much you can do about it now. Just make sure that a replacement battery has at least the minimum number of cranking amps specified by Honda, and make sure that physical dimensions will allow it to fit in the battery compartment. Never understood why smallish ATV batteries cost as much or more, than a much larger car battery.

IMO, the advice regarding use of battery tender is on target. Unfortunately (for me) I don't get a chance to ride my ATVs but every 4-6 weeks. When done riding for the weekend, I take the batteries home with me, and hook them up to the battery tender. The batteries can stay hooked to the tender for months. Thus far I've been very pleased with the BT.

 

Yes I meant your new battery...i.e. when you purchase new battery good idea to use Battery Tender from the time of replacement.
Will extend the life of your newly purchased battery.
