Default electrical (sp700)

I have a 2003 sp 700 that is a money pit. I found a wire that was pinched and broken inside. I traced it to the stator and spliced it. The bike then ran great for about 20min then died. Now it wont start. No fire. The wire I spliced was aluminum and I spliced in copper the same size. I soldered it and used heat shrink. Would there be an issue with any of that? Has anyone had this problem?

I don't think its grounded. I went out today and it fired right up. It ran for about 10-15min and died. It would not restart. I noticed that the fan did not come on while it was running but the temp light never came on. Could it be over heating? Is there any sencors or fuses on the bike that could cause this?

it could be the coil is heating up and breaking down. elec. is very hard to trace and to find issues when they dont just dies all together. it has to reach 210 degrees before the fan would kick on so i would doubt its over heating.

Yeah its the coil or stator, get a repair manuel ,it tells you how to test the components.

Thanks for all the help. I downloaded the service manuel, now if I can only understand it. Itested the stator had voltage then lost it. Not sure if it was my meter or the stator. I'm going to retest it today.

Why did you go from copper to Aluminum??
If the wire was pinched or broken ........Then the two parts should have been the same!!!

I am a Electrician by trade and we do have issues later on with Aluminum wiring!!
They oxide over time and we need to use "NOLAX" paste compound on all our joints they include splicing of the Aluminum wires and when attaching under screws!!......I myself wound not use Aluminum wires if I could help it!!.........Also they tend to have less flexability compared to copper so snapping off may be a issue later on!!!.....Caper.........
