Default Purchased a 2007 Sportsman 700

Hi everyone. I'm Steve and I'm new to the ATV world. I've borrowed some friends ATVs for some time now in my research and narrowed it down to the Grizzly 700 and the Sportsman.

I was leaning towards the Yamaha as there is a lot of good reliability history, but I found my local dealer had a leftover 07 left. I know it doesn't matter as I take delivery tomorrow and I already signed the papers, but did I do alright in negotiations?

I got it for $6,549 OTD....I also bought a helmet, but I didn't included that in the price. What do you think?

Any tips for a newbie. I do have some very experienced friends who I am learning from and will take the course that Polaris pays for.

Thanks,

Steve

Welcome to the forums.
Not a bad price MSRP was 76 new last year. I always get holdover models also for the discount Figger about 62 + tax etc.
I like my poo, it fits my needs best.
Get to know your machine, take it easy at first. The 700 will have plenty of power for whatever you need.
Don't know your application so hard to advise. If going slow> 10 or soor pulling put it in low, rest of the time I leave in hi. If you get stuck DO NOT hit the AWD under power. Since the AWD works on an "as needed" basis you normally will not know when it is on. Polaris has some odd driveline noise, you get used to it. Like about 15 or so when the EBS may kick in.
Just ask and someone will normally have an answer.

Thanks y'all. I plan to ride with some buddies from work. We will be in the mountains for the most part. I've read alot here and it seems like Polaris highly recommends the use of Low when going slow. I'll be sure to use it often when we are climbing around in the hills (Cloudcroft). It was purchased for recreation purposes...as I won't be using it as a ranch tool. I don't plan to race around with it, but when I saw the prices of the 700, I decided to jump on it because the newer 500s were running the same or higher.

Thanks everyone for your opinions.

Welcome to the Forums crosbie and congratulations on the ATV. I think you did great on the price. And the 700 is a VERY NICE machine. I'm sure you won't be disappointed in it.

Post some pics when you can.

Welcome to the Forums Steven, you will like it here. Congrats on your purchase, sounds to me like you did ok. I bought my '04 600 in the fall of '05 and paid $6k OTD. Upnort is correct in saying it will have plenty of power for whatever you are in to, just get to know it first. Mine has a clunking sound when I get in and out of the throttle at speed and I thought It was broke, but that is normal for mine...scared me to death. A buddy has a '04 700 EFI and his does the same thing. As for the riding in low range.....I don't ... unless I am climbing or pulling myself or someone else. Never switch the AWD while under power and NEVER EVER shift while moving!!!!! If you ride in alot of muddy areas, invest in a winch, saved my fat *** plenty of times.

Oh, one more thing. Get yourself a sticker or something that reads " YAMAHA recovery vehicle " Just a thought!!!

Good luck and be safe.

Beertruck.

Man, I thought I was getting a good deal. My dealer priced me a 2006 700 with 2500# winch and 60" plow out the door for $7683 and $8054 for camo. I was going to pull the trigger on them today, but maybe I keep looking?
