Alright my 2001 400ex has been sitting in my garage for about a year now. Im looking to sell it so I want to get it up and running. I changed the oil and oil filter, drained the old gas out of it, changed the spark plug and put a new airfilter in it. after all this the only way i can get it started is by jumpstarting it. I had it running for atleast 15 minutes and everything was fine. when i shut it down and left it for a little while, i tried the electric start and it sounds like wants to start but it just wont kick over.....and i have charged the battery overnight and its still the same. maybe i need a new battery???

probably the battery.Might try cleaning the battery post and wire connectors.

 

I cleaned it and Im charging it over night hopefully it will work out. if not, ill get a new battery and see if that does the trick

 

Definitely sounds like the battery to me. I've fought to start mine before but if you got it started and running then the battery would be the first place I would go. If your battery charging attempt fails then I would try to jump it again. If that works then it is almost definitely your battery.

 

Put a new battery in it today still wont start...should i check the spark plug again???

 

it might be the starter goin bad in it.

 

i checked the sparkplug and it smelt like gas.....and theres a small amount of gas down the air intake. it seems like theres enough power for everything maybe i just flood it each time??
