ES ADVICE..control motor "false positive" test
#1
Just a piece of advice to pass along to all you es runners out there. I put my 450 ES in the drink a while back and after I got it running again it would not shift. I could shift it manually but not electronically. I tried everything. I have the good Honda shop manual and went through all the tests...probably twice or three times, and it lead to the end that the ECU was bad. An almost $400 part! I had my doubts. I had lights, strarting etc...couldn't be the "brain" right?
The test for the control motor said to put 12 volts to it and if it turned it was good. NOT TRUE! Gimpster gave me some very good advice and logically explained why. (see posting labled "testing an ECU..." back in December). I replaced the cotrol motor and she is shifting like new!!
I guess the manual isn't the bible after all.
Advice from a good mechanic is still worth its weight in gold.
Thanks Gimpster....you saved me a bunch of time, $$$$$$$$$$$$, and aggrevation!
