07 Rubicon problem?
#1
Hey guys .
I have a NEW 07 rubicon with oil level full took out for a first 60 miles brakin ride at half throttle and less, and the oil was 4 inches down the dipstick.
I put almost 2 quarts in it to bring it back to high level I could not believe it, I took it out agian for a 25 mile ride and it was below the low level mark by a half inch. so that would bring it to over 2 quarts in 85 miles. Any Thoughts?

make sure your checkig it right- engine must be left on level ground for 5 minutes after shutdown before you check it, just rest the stick on the threads and do not screw it in. As for your break in, you better go run it hard on the next ride, your almost out of time:

Yes, the oil was checked and filled acording to service manual specs.. Was told not to run hard for fist 10 hours by sells person has 11 hrs on it. JRM thanks for link live and learn. Wear does your 01 oil level stay and do you ever have to add oil? My 03 TRX 350 & 88 TRX 300 Never used any oil beteen oil changes.

If you know you are checking the oil right, I have a suggestion. First off though, just to make sure, the unit after setting for a while will read on the lower check marks on the bottom end of the dipstick. I know the service manual recommends the quad idle for 3 minutes without revving it. Then let set for one minute and check the oil level. Look under the quad to identify any oil leaks first. Then open the air box and see if oil is building up in it. If it is, the unit is overfull and blowing it into the airbox, or other issues I have near the end of this post. Take note of the exhaust when riding for smoke. Now if eather of these are not noted and the quad has oil unaccounted for, look below the recoil for oil seapage. The seal inside may have went out. Another place it might go is into the swing arm through the rear driveshaft output seal. It can be checked by loosening one of the swing arm boot clamps, pulling the boot back, left rear of the engine, and looking for oil inside (there should be none), If oil is found inside this boot, the output shaft seal is bad. Check the oil line connections from the oil cooler to the engine. I have seen these seals leak at the fitting.
Now there could be a few other places. The main seal for the water pump leaking where it mates to the head (front of the engine's cylinder assembly). Usually you will smell hot oil if this is the case though. Valves may need adjusting (one is too tight). Rings could be bad, timing chain tentioner bad and letting the cam jump in and out of time, or cam issues from sticking decompresser to cam lobes and cam followers worn.
Hopefully it is something simple and or you have warranty.
