Default 05 Honda Rancher

Just purchased this ATV about 5 months ago. Having issues with it popping out of gear. I have to release the throttle to allow it to engage. Of course, there is grinding involved when its trying to lock back into gear. I have a fealing this is a serious issue. I'm not one that thrashes on my equipment. I use it for general hunting. Nothing too difficult. I would like to know if others have had this issue and what the damage was to the ATV along with $ to fix. Thanks for your help.

Sounds like transmission trouble .. If it's jumped out/grinded much then the corners of the dogs will be bad , so it will probably need at least 2 gears and a shift fork .. You could save yourself a couple of hours labor by removing the engine yourself ..

Thanks for the reply. Do you have any idea why a fairly new machine would have this issue?
