Buying a 2002 700 Sportsman - Anything they need???
#1
Hi. I am brand new to the forum and also brand new to Polaris quads.
I am possibly going to purchase a 2002 700 Sportsman (carbed) from my father-in-law. It has very low miles and is in excellent shape, he babied it, basically only plowing snow with it.
I am new to Polaris quads so I figured I would ask and find out if there is anything a 2002 700 Sportsman desperately needs done to it to make it a good mudder? I plan on going with a set of 26" or 27" Zilla's or my 27" Kenda Executioners for rubber, and I plan on snorkelling it and getting all the vent lines tied up high and out of harms way. I also plan on purchasing a Dalton or Heel Clicker clutch kit for it, unless I buy an AAEN pipe, then i will buy the AAEN clutch kit as well.
Anything i need that I havent mentioned?? It already has a 2500# winch on it.
Thanks for taking the time to read this.

I have an 03 & love it. One of the big issues with this model is that it is very cold blooded. They tend to run better at 1/4 - 1/2 choke. This is because they were leaned out at idle. I had a jet kit installed & it makes a world of difference.

My 02 liked to viberate & break the carb mounts, 2 gromets where it mounts to frame and had the weep hole problem with the water pump. It saw ALOT of mud. Keep the radiator clean, it is the main cause of overheating.
