2008 450r dropped valve!
#1
Has anyone else out there had any problems with valves? I was wondering before I take it back to the dealer if there may be an ongoing problem with this.
Just riding along, 3rd gear passing a buddy and the motor quite---no noise, no warning---when I tried to start back up the noise was there and no start.
If any one has heard of this let me know, Thanks

Have you been ontop of the valve adjustments?
Well maintained or not, the Honda has proven itself to have more valvetrain trouble than any other 450 out there. Especially since the 06 engine updates.

no i hadn't made it back for the adjustment yet--looks like I waited to long!!! The other bikes Ive owned although not sport quads, was easy enough to tell when they were needing adjusted--backfiring, missing and ticking--this bike did none of that!! I guess Honda is known for this problem then by what your saying?

Sort of, but not really. Anyone who buys them to race them, knows that the valves need adjusting frequently (in fact race bikes require more frequent adjusting). Most casual riders are not aware of the adjustments, hence the common "problem" since it is mostly on the consumers end for not being on top of the required maintenance.

I'm not saying that the 06-08 450R is a POS. But staying with routine valve adjustments or not, the engine design simply has proven itself as not being what the 04-05 models were. Most particulary in the valvetrain department. And that is echoed by engine builders everywhere.
