Default transmisson switch bad?

Hey all; Anyone have any ideas on my problem, I've had the Warn back-up light on my '03 600 since new with no problems. I have it wired + side to red/white keyed feed off tailight harness and - feed spliced onto purple reverse wire coming off trans. switch. Last fall it quit working, assumed it was a bulb issue but thats o.k. My local dealer mech. thinks I shorted out the trans. switch after all this time hooked up like this because the switch has resistance constantly running through it. He said "If the factory thought that was a good idea, they would have designed it that way new". I've never heard anyone else on any form have any problems like this, $65.00 for a new switch and easy to replace if I need to. Any ideas???? Thanks

Does the tranny switch work otherwise? Does your headlight pod show H-L-N-R on the display?

Default transmisson switch bad?

OK, I spoke with two different other dealer mechs. They both agreed if I'm still getting PRNLH on the pod and everything seems normal, chances are my trans switch is fine. Any help on this? Anyone? Anyone? Thanks
