Default Just did valves on 250ex im worried help!!

Well i broke down and did my valve adjustment on my 2001 250ex. I had a lot of trouble getting the T to line up everytime i would get it the crank would spin itself back so i had to hold it with something to get it to stay. Is that normal? Also how tight should i have tighten the lock nuts on top of the valves? Im worried i didnt tighten them enough? Lastly if it is just idling and i give it like a full throttle really really fast it bogs down and sometimes dies but if im in gear it is fine? Any help is appreciated as I might go riding tomorrow. Thanks

Try removing the spark plug next time, then you wont have to fight the compression.
The lock nuts just need to be a bit more than snug, theres a spec, but i cant remember it right now, but dont over do it.
The bog on slamming it wide open, is pretty much a common thing on a slide carb....thats why most carbs are now CV type....that eliminated the bog on sudden throttle.
If you slow just a bit on the throttle...is it OK?

Good info Hondabuster !
Also the pilot screw may need adjusting or a dirty air filter

Also 13 ft lbs I think is the spec on the lock nuts on most Hondas... I just get them pretty snug by hand, and I've never had a problem.

17lbs it says in the 2007 Honda 420 service manual but I too just snugged them up by hand.

Yea i tried taking out the spark plug too but that didnt help it didnt want to stay on the T. But regarding the throttle if its in gear it is fine just when idling but u have to nail the throttle fast. Also i am getting a little popping after letting the throttle off i guess its normal because I noticed someone elses 250 does the same.

The poping in the exhaust on sudden letoff, is always a lean idle circuit. The easy fix is make sure you use pure gas, no ethenol, and if that doesnt cure it....go 1/4 turn richer on the mixture screw.

I have a 250ex as well and it is hard starting and bogs down until it gets warmed up.

I was checking out a repair manual and it said for models up to 2001 I was supposed to take of the whole valve cover instead of just those small caps do you think its fine?
