yamaha warrior clutch
#1
I have a 2001 Yamaha warrior with a 396 stroker kit, you know all the goodies. anyways heres the deal. when i give it full throttle the engine revs up, but the quad takes a few to catch the engine, the clutch slips pretty bad. when i just ease up to speed it doesn't slip. my clutch plates and pressure plates seem to be in good condition, i think it is stock springs and they are at fault for this. if you believe the springs are the problem i would like to know what kind i should replace them with. let me know if you think it could be something different.

I had a problem with mine when I installed the 446 kit. Turns out I was using the wrong oil that was not designed for wet clutches. I never had a problem with this oil until I had the stroker. I installed EBC Dirt Digger clutches and used Yamalube and the problem went away.
Another trick on the Warrior is to use Raptor 660 fiber plates. They have more surface area than a Warrior fiber plate and will fit directly in a Warrior.

There are a couple forces that can be at work. It could simply be the wrong oil, like raptor450 said.
Another problem, a design flaw with the clutch, is that the pressure plate will run out of travel when the friction pads are only at about half life. The remedy for this is to add an extra steel plate to the clutch pack, you could even add 2 with a somewhat worn clutch. This will restore the pressure and travel that the pressure plate needs to keep it from slipping if this is what is causing your problems.
