Honda ATC 110 Ignition problems - HELP!!!
#1
Got Gas, Got Spark, what should CDI GAP BE? I have cleaned carb completely. Both Valves are moving. Has pretty decent compression. Has good spark. I am not sure it is timed right. There is a pretty large gap at the rotor between rotor and cdi contact. What is that setting supposed to be? I have a recoil problem so I removed winder and rigged up an electric motor to turn the engine over with. I have a recoil ordered from ebay. I took valve covers off and both valves are chattering up and down. I put gas directly into cylinder to make darn sure it was not fuel. I let the thing turn over for about 10 minutes without as much as a pop. Doesn't it have to be timing/gap issue?
Thanks so much for any help,
Chet

Air gap between rotor tip and pulse generator: .30-.40 mm (.012-.016 in)
Ignition timing does not normally need adjusting.
Maybe check the resistance of the alternator exciter coil (blk/red wire coming from alternator and ground) should be 110-400 ohms. If the exciter coil is bad you may still have spark but not enough.
All of this is in the manual. If you search www.3wheelerworld.com you will probably find one you can download.

Hi,
Thanks for the info. I checked the gap ane it was .014. Strange thing is I turned the engine over with an electric motor for a while after I posted and then changed the plug and it fired up nicely. I just got this thing for $150.00. Never had it started before. Now it starts on first pull every time. Good old Hondas. Such nice little motors. It is running roughly at low RPMs though. I suspect it is the low speed carb jet. once it picks up from the high speed jet it cranks. If it isn't the jet I am wondering if it might be valve adjustment. What do you think?
Thanks a lot,
Chet

Your rough low RPM is probably dirty carb
these things need to soak in carb cleaner
You can usually get a gallon can with basket at parts stoor about $25
there are bleed passages that plug up
I would also pick up a carb kit as the Idle bleed jet is usually plugged
This is the small jet next to the main jet it is about .012" it can be cleaned if you have a set of wire gage drill bits
It is easiest to get kit
Also is your air filter snorkle all there and connected as this will cause what you are describing if it has been removed
If snorkle removed let me know as there are other things that come into play
Good luck
