Can-Am DS90X or Polaris Outlaw 90 MXR
#1
Been looking at all of the major manufacturers 90s. We want something that will last through 2 kids. One is 9 and the other is 6. I've heard that the DS90X is a really nice bike, except that it can't seem to get out of it's own way. Very poor performance for such a well done chassis and suspension. I also have heard really good things about the Polaris, as well as a lot of bad things. I read somewhere that both use the same engine. Is this correct? If it is, then why is there very little word of the Polaris not having the poor performance issues that the DS has? I like the wider suspension of the DS as it seems most people use spacers on the standard 90s to get better stability. Any thoughts and/or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

What do you plan on doing with the atv? Trail riding/crosscountry racing/mx racing? I have done a bit a research and found very little on the polaris mxr. I am currently awaiting a dsx...been on order for 6 weeks. I ended up with the dsx do to dealer support (which is important) and the suspension/stability. Both are not all that strong with out a couple of aftermarket products...pipe and cdi. An upgraded clutch is important if you are into racing. I have a 7 year old and we will be trail riding with a bit jumping when the trail seems appropriate. If you are racing...go with the DRR...that seems to be the ticket...APEX also seems to a popular model. Both are two strokes unlike the dsx. If you are into mods and working on atv's most models are appropriate if you add the upgrades...spacers/suspension/speed mods etc. My mechanical background is limited to check writing...thus the dsx.
Keep research as there are a lot of opinions out there.

most riding will be dirt and dunes. the problem with the 2-strokes is the green sticker that we need. many are only red sticker bikes. I am going to look into the Apex and have and email to DRR to try and find a dealer. Where are you located? I am in CA. Any more thoughts on our search? thanks for the help

Glen, my son has a Outlaw 90 and I couldn't be more happier with it. It runs great, has good power and I have had no issues. He rides the trails and the dunes all day long on it. I bought a 45 dollar billet exhaust endcap for his muffler off ebay and it made a huge difference in its performance. A friend bought a DS90X and couldn't beleive how slow it was. He's on a waiting list for upgrade parts to try and make it go! That sucks because they are so cool looking. Here is a short video of him jumping it. I think there is one more of it once you get to youtube.

Thanks for the input. I looked at the Outlaw 90 today. They have a few 07's left and then they have the new limited edition. The cost of an 07 would be around $2400 out the door. The MXR would be around $3100 otd. Not sure if the extra cost is worth it. The MXR had Fox shocks, real nerf bars not the plastic, aluminum wheels with better tires. The extra $700 could be spent on upgrades for the 07. Exhaust, wheels, etc. I also am looking into the BAMX bikes. Haven't read much on them. I'm not in a hurry to buy so I can look for a while. Any other thoughts?

My 8 year old daughter has the Outlaw 90 and we have had 0 problems with it. My 12 year old daughter uses this quad to race XC races due to the CC limits. The only things I have done to it are pull off the stock spark arrestor and replaced the stock filter with a UNI. They run dead engine starts and at the last race she got the holeshot and win in the 30 minute race. It does not have the top end that the DRR or APEX machines had but in really tight trails the 4 stroke torque worked really well for her.

Hey EdKatt, is that the Outlaw or the DS 90 X in the video? And do you know roughly how fast he was going?
Thanks!
Thanks!
