Default Help in removing recoil starter assembly- 1990 250

I have a 1990 250 2x4 Trail Boss and the pull start no longer works. The rope does not recoil and if you try spin the recoil reel is just spins in either direction. I have removed the reel cover but how do you remove the reel itself so that I may try to remove the starter case to check the recoil spring? It does crack if I use the electric start but I like to have the pull start working also. Any information and help would be greatly appreciated.

There are 6 bolts that secure the pull start assembly to the engine. Just take them off and pull the whole assembly. Then you'll have to hold the part that catches on the cage on the flywheel and unscrew the reel from it. That's all I remember without having it in front of me. I had to replace most of the pull start internals in my wife's '98 Trailblazer a couple of months ago.
