01' 660 raptor starter just spins HELP
#1
The 01' 660 starter just spins but nothing engages to turn the engine over. I pulled the small cover off that mounts to the end of the starter and the gears look fine . Is there some starter clutch or something that may be bad. All I know is that I can hear the starter spin but it doesn't turn the engine over.
Any ideas ?
Thanks,

I replaced my one way clutch last month. It took about 20 minutes. Toughest part was pulling the fly wheel, piece of cake it you have an impact gun. After market clutch was about $180.

This is a common problem among 660 Raptors. You will need to replace the starter clutch, as well as the 52 tooth gear behind the clutch. If you do not replace the gear, there is a good chance you will be replacing it soon thereafter. You also do not want to put the OEM starter clutch right back in there. Use an after market more durable clutch so you dont have this problem again. I recently installed an Xtreme starter clutch on mine, and it works great. www.raptorstarterclutch.com

Where can I get an aftermarket clutch that will hold up longer than the OEM ?

I bought mine on line at L&A Designs, www.raptoroneway.com. The complete kit that includes new clutch screws, two gaskets and clutch cost $140+$9 shipping. My 52 tooth gear was in good shape so I didn't change it. I recommend using lock-tite on the clutch screws. When I opened mine up, two of the six screws were loose.
