Please Help! Bent shift forks on my Warrior 350?
#1
I've got a 2002 Warrior. Just a couple weeks ago I picked up my Warrior from the local repair shop (yes...they wanted to rip me off....like usual). They said that I needed a new clutch basket, pressure plate, discs, etc. and wanted to charge me $400 for it. Anyways, I took it home, got new parts from eBay (for a fraction of the cost), got a Clymer manual and put in a whole new clutch myself. I took it out the old clutch and yep...it did need replacing...Well....The clutch works great. However, my atv still has trouble shifting into any gear and its tough to find neutral. (It was doing this a while back, but they shop said not to worry about it, but it's gotten worse....much worse)
I've noticed that i'm pushing harder and harder on the shifter just to put it into 1st or any gear when the bike is running. When it does shift, it shifts hard, and I can tell that it's not good for it. If I turn off the Warrior, it'll shift into neutral fine.
I asked the shop if this was a good indicator that my shift forks were bend, but they told me that it probably wasn't cause "it's rare that they bend". I disagree with them. I bought my Warrior brand new from the dealer and I (and my whenever my brothers ride it) beat the hell out of it. The dang this is a rock and I love how dependable it is. I think that my hard riding has caught up and taken its toll.
Please advise on what I should do to fix this. I just don't want to pay the local Yamaha shop a ton of cash for what I could do in a couple nights in my garage.

ima tell you right now warriors trannys are bulletproof as hell...yours being a 2002...wow that would be a super rare occurance, id check your internal shift mechanism the long shaft the goes through your cases, and id pull covers off to watch the clutch components move when you pull clutch in...but you might just have to pull the cases apart...

Hey thanks for the quick response 91Warrior357. Thats a good idea, I really hope that your right about the internal shift mechanism cause I really don't want to split the case. Hopefully I'll be back on the trails before long.
