Default One last question before I Buy the X2

The day is hear, Tuesday is the day I have sets to go get the new x2 or order it now because they sold the 700. Some one asked me yesterday is it really necessary to have a 2-up when most trails in most states let you ride a passenger on a one person atv. (I know this is a safteything) And we have done just fine on a one person atv for years. Here is my store. (You all have been a big help). I told them that I was getting a 2-up. I've been riding for years and now my wife rides with me more and more. Never thought to much about it because when we ride we just putt around and look at things. (I would like to ride some trails with her that require a 2-up). Her thing is big wide trails and little water just gaving a nice day. Done this for years. A few times every year us guy take the bosses with us, but it seems on more and more weekend she and they loves to go and I'm happy with that. We still get the guy days out but if they want to go then it means more ATV riding, More weekend doing riding and less doing the TO DO LIST. My daughter got married and is still in college and she riding around home on some trails here at the house. Her new husband always wants to go but no bike. So she asked me if I could help and they are good kids just starting out so I though hey a good chance to get a new/used 2nd atv and help out. I started looking at all ATVs and I like the x2. I have a 03 grizzly and love it. I thought about getting just another 1 person atv and doing what I've done for years. The $$$ would be better and could find a use one cheap. But to my understanding some places and some states require a 2-up but not all. I go to these campgrounds or trail heads and 99.9% of the people are doubling on a one person atv. Most dealers state they don't sell a lot of the 2-ups. What do you all see? What is your state requirement or trail requiements. Just checking all thoughts before I do this. Main thing is safety for my wife and daughter. The new bike will be rode 50% one person and 50% 2 person. I just want to be sure before I do it. Thanks for you input. I'm going to post this and the main site to.

Default One last question before I Buy the X2

My wife and I just bought two 500's, that being said we debated for quite sometime about just buying one quad making it a 2up machine. Most of the private trails we ride are not too rough so with 2 single passenger machines we ride double anyway so then 4 people can ride. I know doubling up is always a safety concern but I feel like I have good judgement and won't allow doubling up in certain situations but on easy trails going slow I don't see a problem with it. I grew up in the country and always had atv's to ride, we often rode double and never had a problem. I think the key is to take it easy and keep out of the bad stuff.
The public trails we ride in Illinois and Missouri all require a 2up machine to carry a passenger so it really depends where you'll spend most of your time riding. I like riding on private property and even though it takes me a few hours to get there I'm lucky enough to have permission to several places (friends and family's property) so we are able to make our own rules. On the other hand when we decide to ride public lands it sucks because two bikes equal 2 passengers.
The main thing about the 2up is it costs more to buy but you already have one quad so buying a 2up would allow you to ride double when the rules say you must have a 2up . Now you can have three people between 2 bikes legally. I think the 2up's are cool and I hear that they are very comfortable to ride but the extra cost was the killer for me. I hope this helps but I'm sure it polly didn't...lol. I think every persons needs are different, I'm sure you'll make the right call and be happy with your new toy, whichever you choose.

Default One last question before I Buy the X2

I would venture to guess that as more trails become "Public' they will require insurance and of course that means "More Rules"
I needed a second bike, mostly because I live in the mountains and even on my property, there are places that I wouldn't feel comfortable with 2 people on a 1up machine.

That said, having a 500 X2 it is really nice to ride even in the back seat. a lot more comfortable than sitting on the tail even in a "Seat" on a 1-up.
Another note, the X2 feels a lot more stable and if your wife goes to riding for herself, you will have a good stable machine to put her on.

My Second Quad is that 500 X2, I put my son @ 200 on the back and we did a little bit of herding here on the property. While it isn't my 800 it has enough speed and bottom end grunt that I could easily cutoff the herd and turn them where I wanted them to go.

I have done similar with myself @280 on the back with my wife driving and she is comfortable enough she can really let it have it's head.

Dittos to BigBros, I also like the extra stability of the longer quad over a single rider quad. The only drawbacks are the breakover angle isn't as good as a single rider and the turning radius can be a little higher. I scrape a little bit here and there on rocks that the other single rider machines just barely clear. The 2 passenger machines make hill climbs a lot safer than the single machines. It also makes for a more stable towing machine too. And, when you are riding single, you have a great box that will fit a very good sized cooler.

Go for the x2, you won't regret it. The only reason I wouldn't is if you couldn't afford it. You will find that you will be riding the x2 more often, especially when riding two people. Not only is it more comfortable for both of you, but it is much more stable, safer and easier to ride. Good luck!

How do you like the 700 on the trail as a single person rider? I like that color. Money is not a major issue. If I'm going with 5 plus for a signal why not go 2 more for a double. That was my thoughts in the beginning.

I got the 500x2 touring and we love it when riding two, around here in New-Brunswick Canada I see quite a few of them on the trails, the wife and I go a lot together and would not think of getting another single. The side by side would be great but the trails around here are still narrow in the winter, so the 2 up is the bike for me.

A one up is a one up with a one up suspension and a two up is a two up with a two up suspension. Spending the extra dollars would be a good trade for safety.

The x2 still gives a good ride when riding single. In fact, I think it still beats alot of others (singles) out there! My 800 is definitely softer, though. But, then if I ride double on my 800, it rides much different and is no where near as comfortable as the x2. The x2 rides better with 2 riders. I would say if you rarely ever ride 2 up, then stay with a single. But, if you ride 2 up as often as you say, I wouldn't even hesitate to have a x2. Besides, you still have the grizzly for single and you still like it. The x2 is kind of like getting two for one! I really didn't think I would ride the x2 much, just bought it for the wife so she would have her own ride. But, she likes to often just putt around and talk so we find ourselves riding it rather than both. But, as a rule of thumb, I don't like to ride without atleast two quads in case one breaks. She does have a love for the mud so if there is any she will find it! She has yet to get it stuck and she has pulled me out a couple of times! LOL!
