scrambler 400 Starter Change
#2
After you remove recoil, remove two bolts at bottom that hold starter. also opposite end of starter is a bracket that hold starter also. Several ways to remove: Either pull clutch cover and clutches plus backing plate to get access to complete starter bracket and starter, after starter and bracket removal check bendix,grease/replace if bad also. Another method: remove recoil and two bolts, stand on tail end, remove skid plate, remove bracket(back screws hard to get to) and starter. Easier for me to remove skid plate and clutches since I have a lift and clutch tools. Not a good job anyway you do it. Good luck.
