New Clutch
#1
I just ordered a new clutch for my 05 Sportsman 500 HO due to some cracks in my old one. I was wondering on if the new clutch comes balanced. I know that the original clutch was balanced because when I went to change the clutch spring people kept after me to mark the cover when I took it off so that I could put it back on the same way because it was balanced. I have to install my original spring and weights because the new clutch does not come with them.(why?) That is what concerns me because, how did they balance it without all the parts presant? I also would like to know if the assembly comes assembled or do I have to get it pressed together.

Older ones had X's bottom and top,new one May not have X on top cover, just etchings. After installing spring put back on AS was when received. X marks are the alignment position. Etching should line up with x at bottom,Or if you really are **** make your own marks! Good luck

Your new clutch will have an "X" on the spider and a grouping of numbers stamped in the cover. these align on top of each other for proper assembly. Many people just take a black marker and mark them before taking the cover off to make is even easier.
The clutch is balanced without any internals (weights/spring) when manufactured. Just install your components and you're set.
A new replacment clutch doesn't come with any weights/spring because even within a certain class/model of machine, there are several different clutch set-ups used.

Gooroo, I bought EBS clutches for a non-EBS Sportsman 500 a long time ago. I actually still have them. Both clutches had several holes drilled in the edges to balance them. I don't image they ever QUIT balancing them.
