New Dayco belt is squealing at idle in gear
#1
Well, this new belt went on easy enough, but it squeals a bit while in gear but idling (brakes applied). If I pop it to neutral (which seems harder to do now...shifter is firmer), it stops. Sometimes it'll even stall if I sit with the brakes applied, idling in gear. It seems to happen for the 'first time' each time I ride when in reverse, but then it happens in fwd and reverse. it 'seems' to go away with 4wd off, BUt there have been occasions where it didnt matter....my steering wheel felt 'stuck' to the side until i 'rode through it'.
I assume this means the belt is a bit to tight. How do I fix this? My first instinct was belt dressing...but that seems to be a cover-up as opposed to cure.
Thanks

I think you should try the stock Polaris belt, part # 3211077 and see how that works. It's the same belt as the Scrambler 500s. Dealers should have them in stock since they still use them all the way up to the 2009 model.

If too wide will squeal, turns rear clutch and hard to shift. Just run a while and see if loosens up. You already have it,try to get use out of it first. If not may have to go back to stock belt as jumbofrank said

well, after running for a bit the squeal is gone. only thing is that it stalls now if idling in gear for too long....i assume a turn of the throttle adjustment on the carb should help here?

typicaly this is why a stock oem belt is better becasue of the proper diamentions as after market belts arent as close tolerances and will cause these issues. the money people save sometimes isnt worth the prblems it creataes. imo.

I don't like being the bad guy who burts someone's bubble, and I didn't want to be the first one to say it, but I think the belt is too tight and causing the stalling problem, and the only way to know for sure is to put an OEM belt on and see if it still does it.

I tried a Goodyear belt and it slipped and squealed, I went back to the Polaris belt and all is fine now. You can Aftermarket most things but stay with the Polaris belt at all cost.
