1985 200X

Hello, I just purchased a used 200X. It starts and runs fine. When it gets rode fairly hard it starts making a (rattling type noise) looses power and blows out blue smoke from the exhaust. It still starts and idles fine when warm. After it cools down it all stops and runs perfect again. When it's making this noise if I keep it under 1/2 throttle but then more than 1/2 throttle I start hearing the noise again.
I know very little about these/engines in general so any help is truly appreciated. One of my buddies thought the timing chain may be loose?

get a manual for your trike and read up on adjusting the camchain tension, and the drive chain. the cam chains tend to be noisy after they wear out. i just had to adjust mine for the first time in the trikes 24 year lifespan.

the same thing happend to my 200x.the first thing you should do before you take the head apart you should check the valve clearance if they are too loose they will make noise and the engine losses power and will not run right after you gett the valves clearance right and if it still makes noise and wont run right check the cdi, and pulse generator to see if they are clean.then check you spark plug to see if it has a good spark. and does it smoke a lot are just a little one does it stop are does it smoke a the time that it is on.
