Default polaris 6x6 ranger (2000)

i have a 6x6 ranger that was built in 2000,i just recently started have a problem in the 4 wheel drive portion of the transmission. the problem is that i can only drive in forward and reverse when i have the 6 wheel drive switched on.it seems that all 6 wheel drive ,and when i close the switch ill come to a stop.ive have checked the fluid level in the trans,(was a little low) topped that off ,checked the linkages ,they appear to be ok.........i hopping i don't have to dismantle the trans to repair it...anyone heard of such a thing.any help would be greatly appreciated.thanx ric

Place large floor jack center of rear, jack back 4 wheels off ground, see if only front shaft from trans turning front propshaft. Could be trans or rear shaft problems if front wheels pulling only?

If that's not it you could try try posting in the Ranger section, but I don't think you'll find an Old Ranger Tech there.

with the unit in the air and running ,in 4 wheel drive the rear wheels do not move, whether the 6 wheel drive switch is engaged or not .when the switch is on ,only the front wheels will turn.......................in 4wheel drive the front drive shaft will spin but front wheels are disengaged(which they are supposed to be)let me know if i can add to this

That why I said to jack up, If no power to rear wheels either trans problem or CANT remember if has COUPLER shaft to rear,If does check for spline striping at coupler. Is REAR output shaft turning in trans along with front?

with the rear up,in 4wheel drive nothing turns.cant see drive shaft to rear wheels(covered) .if the splines we stripped i would hear the drive shaft tiring to catch.it is quiet .once the 6 wheel drive switch is engaged only the front wheels will turn.,does anyone know where to get a exploded view of the rear drives assemblies?

THATS where the coupler is COVERED! Has grease fitting, hard to see, hard to grease.Coupler will strip and not turn. Trans shaft should be ok, a lot tougher than coupler.
