I got an '85 350x with a trashed motor. One of the valves broke off, punching a hole in the piston and destroying the head. That's not the worst part. The previous owner cut off the rear motor mount so I'd need to find a left side case as well. I have found a few on ebay, but they're expensive, you never know what you're getting, and shipping is way high, which brings me to my point. I have a local motorcycle salvage yard here that has a few 300ex's. Will the 300ex motor fit(I'd get electric start and reverse in a 350x!) or is there a better choice? They want $500 for a 2001 motor with all the wiring and carb, etc.

Yes with minor adjustments the 300ex motor will fit. I think there are threads from those who did it on the 3 wheeler only boards

 

Yeah it will work, but did you say you needed new motor mounts?

 

The rear mount on the motor itself was cut off, supposedly to make it fit into a quad, so I'd need a whole new motor or the left side case(where motor mount is) and head. Is a 300ex motor a bolt in, or will it need extensive fabricating?

 

I have an 86 motor I am getting rid of. Smokes and needs some TLC. Had it in my 250x for some time, just purchased an 03 300ex engine with national kit.. Hope it fits...

 

where are you located? I'd much rather have the correct engine in my 350x...

 

Gave up and turned it into a parts trike... bought me an '86... I'm in love...

 

well if you want a future project I have heard a few people putting 400ex engines in them. Nearly the same size and much faster.
