older warrior

So, I found this guy just giving away and older Warrior. It has the original gold rims and everything. It is in rough shape when looking at it, but if it runs decent I can fix her up and let my g/f ride it. If someone can help me a little with some questions that would be awesome.
How do I find out the exact year? I cant see a tag on the frame anywhere.
It has a pull start along with electric. When I pull the cord I can feel good compression and it rolls over good, but when I hit the starter it make a bad grinding noise. Any idea what that is? Thanks.

I would sure take it. I had a 98 that had the gold rims with yellow/grey plastics. This one has one up with pull start, mine didn't and when my starter did the same thing it sounds like yours is doing I had to roll start it. I put a new starter on and worked fine. I think I gave 75 on ebay for new one. I'm not sure where the year is,but if you send me a PM I will give you a suggestion. Look for the number on the bottom frame rail near foot peg, I've seen numbers there. I'm not a Warrior expert but loved mine, it was quick lots of power and reverse.

Yep, or ddn't the '87 come with pull start also? There is a compression release at the upper-front of the engine that needs flipping every time you pull it. If you don't then you might rip your arm out of your shoulder!
The serial number should be on the lower frame section where hotblooded said
If it's free, I would take it. Warriors are almost bullettproof, but you may want to do a total evaluation of what needs fixing before you dump a whole lot of money into it.

Thanks for the replies! I brought it home tonight, douched the carb out, put fresh gas in and it fired up! It ran through all the gears and reverse works, so looks like I made out with it. It still needs work to be in riding condition like brakes and what not, but for free its a good score I think.
