Advice Request on a 2-Up
#1
I am planning on buying a 2-up this Fall or next Spring. Can anyone please give me their recommendations, experiences and advice?
I've trail ridden a CanAm 400 2-up and test rode a Polaris 500 2-up. The CanAm's EBS really grabbed hard going downhill and was quite annoying. My wife thought the Polaris had too soft a ride. I have not been able to test the Arctic Cat TRV, as the local dealer has been less than helpful and the next nearest one is 120 miles away.
Based on the power of the CanAm, I can't see the need for much more than a 500. The AC TRV 550 H1 looks like the smallest one in their lineup that has EFI, which I'd want.
I will use it for trail and gravel road pleasure riding in the mountains, 3500' to 10,000'+. I am 6'-2" 190# and my wife is 5'-2" and, well, less.
I have never owned an ATV and my total riding time is about 12 hours.
I have ruled out a SxS, but have not ruled out getting (2) single rider units.
Thank you!

the polaris had too soft of a ride?? is there such a thing... too soft of a ride?? after touring the mountains all day your going to want the softest ride possible.. you can stiffen the suspension or add heavy duty springs if you want for only a couple hunderd and you will still have money left for fuel, bumpers, winch etc.. compared to the price of a can-am.. but it's your money

Well, maybe "soft ride" was a poor choice of words. My wife said it that way, but explained that she bounced around more on the Polaris and didn't feel as stable as she did on the CanAm. We had just ridden the CanAm for 3 hours the previous day, so everything will be compared to that one.

I love my 2007 500 X2. I use it for working around the house just as much as I do for trails. I don't think I could do without the Turf Mode. It really saves the grass. I am currently looking at a 2009 800 Touring. You migh want to consider the 500 Touring model. Same basic setup as the X2, but without the dump bed. Rear seat is way more comfortable too.

I have the AC TRV 700 and I really love it. Was trying to decide between the CanAm and the AC and I liked the AC dealer better. Have not had to many passengers yet but everyone says that it handles better with two riders. I love the extra length for going up hills.
