belt slipping from mudding
#1
i was doing some serious mudding yesterday on my 06 hawkeye 300 4X4 and at the end of the day instantly after going thru one mud puddle that ice been goin thru all day and the belt was slippin bad. how would the mud and water get into the belt case? and also, i just decided to pull the yellow plastic drain screw and run it around till it ran out and dried out and it runs alot better, almost like before. do i need to remove the belt cover? i dont want to do that if i can avoid it. and there wasnt much water in the belt at all, like just dripped a couple times.

May have gone thru a bit faster tat you splashed it way up into the intake. In the manual it says to remove plug & run at a high idle for a few seconds if still slips repeat. Since the clutches are warm the airflow through the housing will dry them pretty quick. Running it under power wet can glaze the belt a bit. I have got water in mine a couple times and have done this & am still going strong. I would not bother taking the cover off for that lil bit.

Just a little dampness there Hobbles.
If you think any mud and not just water got in there, take off the cover and wash everything out really well. Mud + moving belt = belt sander. It WILL put a groove in the pulleys.

ok, so i dont have to run it in gear to get it out, and the belt and clutch will spin in idle? ill do that next time, and it was probably just getting into the intake cuz it was instant after that puddle and i was goin thru it faster than usual so thats probably why.

Mine would slip now and again. I found that one screw was not put in the right place and the cover was not sealed right. I pulled the cover off and sealed it with silicone and now I have no problem. And our quads do get damp from time to time.</end quote></div>

The primary will spin at idle. As you rev it up the belt will engage & the secondary will spin. IN <u>NEUTRAL or PARK</u> of course, I see I did not mention that in the first part. The airflow through the housing will dry it. If you have alot of water in it you will see water being blown out. (Not that I have).

Yep,seal the case up good and check your snorkle boot for cracks. Guys around here have Polaris submarines and swear by putting turpentine on the belts which I have yet to try on mine
