FourTrax blowing smoke from crankcase, why?
#2
There is a leak somewhere that is pressurizing the crankcase and/or transmission. Combustion gasses are entering and pressurizing the case windage causing to blow out of the vents. Most likely will require a tear-down(or partial at least) to determine from where and to cure it.

Well I tore it down this afternoon and all I can say is that's it's a small miracle that the poor thing was running at all. Compression was 60psi hot! I squirted some oil in the cyl.....comp was still 60psi.....so I thought "valve job". Nope, the valves were fine. Pulled the cyl off and low and behold, both rings were siezed into the piston. the top ring was almost worn away, and the bottom ring was in about ten pieces. All still in the ring grove, but shattered. The oil control ring was still working fine. That's why there was no exhaust smoke. Crankcase vent was smoking like a mosquito sprayer (yankees may not understand that one)
Bottom line, ordered a first over piston rings etc. Local shop is going to bore the cyl Sat morning, so I should be back in the woods Sunday morning!
