Default Need suggestions for sport ATV .... USED or new

Well I have been looking to fix my ATV or get another one.. I am only really looking for something to ride some trails , few jumps here .My son is just learning to ride and what something I can teach him with as he rides behind me. Not looking for anythign too serious but something reliable with a little power would be nice. I like to have fun but not insanley fast.

Here are my options so far but I am open to more:

1. I currently have a 1987 Honda 250x.. that the case was wound up cracked after riding it a few times.. so this would need a new engine. So I can put a 300ex engine into it and a few other goodies for it for around a $1000

2. 2008 Yamaha Raptor 250 NEW for 3000

3. 2008 Yamaha Raptor 350 NEW for 4000

4. USed 2006 Honda 400ex with low hours, new plastic.. $3000 with 6 month
warranty

5. NEW 2008 Honda 250ex shaft drive for 3500

6. USED Honda 300ex I can find a decent one for around $2000

Although I thought about spending almost twice that and get the 2008 Polaris Outlaw 500 with idependent rear suspension they have on sale for $5500.. BUt I can't justify spending quite that much.. Probably way more then I need.

Please give me some input.. I have no clue what one to get.

The 2008 Yamaha Raptor 350 probably has more power than any of the other five. More power is good, right? One of my friends has had a Raptor 350 for about 2 years, and it seems like a good quad.

The 400EX is a great quad for riding with the kids! This engine will lug down, and doesn't mind being ridden slow. Great handling, good suspension, high quality machine that will last forever, with just simple maintenance.

As for your other choices, you are coming off a 250X, which is smallish. The 300EX and 250EX, and Raptor 250, aren't really much of an improvement over the 250X you now have. You need to step up to a real full size machine!

As for he Raptor 350 which was mentioned, it is nothing but a warmed over Warrior 350. I rode one for many years, and it was by far the worst quad I ever owned. Very clunkey and heavy handling! I had hopes the the Raptor 350 would be improved, but I rode one the other day, and it was not much better than the old Warrior. Pass this one up........

The 400 ex is the one I was kind of leaning towards.. I wasn't sure if the price was on target or not.. They want $3000 for it and has a 6 months warranty on it.. It is very clean.. the dealer has all the service records on it.. This was owned by an older gentleman that barely rode it.. His kids raced and he just got something for when they go riding.. All brand new OEM plastic and just serviced.. Im thinking if I go in there with 2700-2800 cash they will take it. But with another $2000 they have the brand new Polaris 500.. So I am just not sure what to do just yet.
