Default Polaris 330 Sportman Help

Hello,

I am new to the forum, and would like to get some insight on troubleshooting my 99 Sportsman 335.

#1. I changed the oil and the next time I started it the low oil light never went off.

#2. The headlight quit working some time ago, but I tested the bulb and it works.

#3. Sometimes the engine cuts out while moving forward and you have to hold the reverse override button down to make it run right. This is an intermittent problem.

I stopped at the Polaris dealer and they told me they don't even have a book on this old of a unit and that it would just be $75/hr until they could figure something out.

I am tired of getting held-up on these labor charges, so I spent the money and bought the shop manual. Just wondering if anyone could give me a head start.

Thanks

2. the intermittent cut out problem is the reverse limiter. there is a black wire on it that you can unplug and will completly get rid of the reverse override.
3. i would check your switch on the handle bars to see if its corroded. try tracing wires still you find the headlight wire and apply juice to it and see if the light comes on. maybe you just have a short somewhere and it blew a fuse

no clue on numero uno

THANKS FOR THE INSIGHT. I will try to start tracing out the problem. Last night when I started it, I noticed in nuetral when the engine was running and cutting out the neutral light was not on, but when I depressed the reverse override button the neutral light illuminated as well as the high beam indicator light, but no headlight working.

Anyone know how the reverse limiter could affect these other circuits???

thanks

the reverse limiter is probably going out which could cause an internal short to ground. might be that. if you unplug the black wire going to the rev limiter it should stop all of that

Sorry, can you be a little more specific? Are you talking about under the fuel tank? Give me a reference to something I would recognize - ie where from the carb, or head, which side of the bike is it on? What's it look like?

thanks

it is just infront of the handle bars. if you pull the front plastic off, there should be two black boxes that look almost identical. unplug the black wire on the right side box if you where sitting on the bike.
