Shifter on 110 ATC Loose...How to tighten?
#1
Well, I finally had time to get the new rings, cylinder and jug in my 110 and it is running top notch. Thanks to some of the helpful hints on here and my manual, it wasn't too bad. Took about 3-4 hours with a buddy of mine.
But now I've got a new issue. The foot shifter is loose. I know...one bolt...just tighten it up. However, I've tightened it up as best I can and it is still slipping. I've broken a couple of bolts already in trying to get it tighter. The grooves that are on the stud coming out of the tranny as well as the grooves on the shifter itself have been worn down over the years and there isn't a good gripping surface.
So, how do you get it to grip? A little JB Weld? Just tighten down with better stronger bolts? Any tricks that you do to keep this from being a problem?

Sound like the splines an the shifter shaft are worn.
If so the shaft will need to replaced as well as the shifter itself, maybe.
Spot welding would be the redneck way of doing it.:}

Is the shifter streched
Where the bolt goes through
I have seen this where if you have a small cutoff wheel run in between the split in the shifter you could tighten the bolt more and grip tighter
give this a try
Thanks

Ray,
That is what I ended up doing and so far, it is working. Bought a grade 8 bolt, took my hack saw and made the opening a bit bigger, and then tightened it up. Shifts great! Hopefully won't need the JB Weld for a while
Thanks,
RJ

Yea
Thinking about this
A buddy and I are working on his 110 and he needs a shifter
We spent several hours at MC wrecking yard looking must be a run on shifters
We finaly found one paid $15
That was $5 more than last parts 110 I bought
But shifetr was different
We have found different years are different
Thanks
