#1
Just wondering what are a few easy maintenance tips that someone new to atvs can do to keep their quad running...
i just purchased the following quads...
1999 Polaris Sport 400 (2 stroke)
2000 Honda 400ex (bored to 440 or something like that)
thanks

On Polaris 2-stroke keep air filter clean, chain adjusted and lubed, change trans fluid yearly, use any good TCW3 rated injector oil,but stay with the same brand(some oils dont intermix that well) Plus keep a check on counter balancer oil (30 wt ok) Dip stick under carb, holds only about 75-100 cc oil. Keep greased about every 50 hrs or sooner depending on riding conditions. I'll let the Honda gurus tell you on the Honda, but from my experience with em,change oil and filter on a regular basis, check valve clearance probably yearly will surfice? 4-strokes a lot more tolerant of dirt,BUT still keep air filter clean. JUST my 2 cents worth Good luck

How come you gave your wife the fast quad...?
Seriously though just do the basics on both (clean oil, clean air, clean gas) and the other extended oiling and cleaning and both should last a long time.....
My Father and his buddy together have owned 4 of those 400cc Polaris machines and they all ran with few breakdowns.... and the 400ex (if the 440 kit was done right) will last forever and then some....
