I have a polaris sportsman 500 It will not get spark with the elec start but starts right up with the recoil. Is my switch bad??

 

does it still turn over when you try using the starter?.

 

yep cranks just fine with no spark.

 

well i dont think it would be your switch..what year is it.. i'll take a look in my book

 

Its a 200o 500 sportsman. it started last weekend went riding 4 a batchelor party got into some deep mud and water holes but it ran fine. couple hours later my belt blew. I just bought a new one and replaced it on the trail. well the polaris dear gave me the wrong one to small when i would crank it it would roll forward. then it would not start I killed the battery cranking it so i grabed the recoil started first pull. rode 4 alittle bit then when i stoped it would stall belt to small. Then the recoil broke well i got the recoil fixed 2 day so iam going to put it back on 2marro. Thanks 4 ur help

check the voltage of the battery as it muct be at least 12.5 volts to start it w/ the key most of the time. also make sure the connections from batt to starter are good and put some dielectric grease on to prevent any further issues. imo.

 

I will check it but we jumped it off another battery and no spark. But i will doulbe check the battery is a couple years old and i did hook up a audio tube to it that weekend. Thanks
