charging help 95 xplorer
#1
I'm working on a 95 polaris xplorer 400.I recieved this machine not running.I put a engine in from a 97 sport since the old engine blew the piston apart and put two large cracks in the bottom end.I had to use the stator assy as well as the oiler from the org engine since the 97 didnt come with them.after replacing the counter balance bearings, all new gaskets and seals.I took it out for a drive.engine idled a little rough but i believe that to be that i dont have the carb dialed in quite right.runs good otherwise.pretty good pickup. However, the more i drove, the dimmer the light got.The battery only reads 9volt's now.battery is brand new and was fully charged at beginning of ride.started machine and there was no change in battery volts. So I guess my question is how do i go about checking the stator to make sure its that and not something else.Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks everyone for the help.

i had the same problem on mine.. but it was just the wires going to the generater,, i wasnt the one who fixed it... it was a tech at a shop... i took it there to fix my 4x4 and he seen some wires were showing or somthing... thats the first place i would check

Should be 3 leads of stator. Lead to lead ohm wise should be low like less than 1 ohm. To ground open. With it running should measure at least 25 - 30 volts AC with it reved up to about 2500 or so.
