I'm looking at possibly buying a 2008 Grizz and had a question about the way you put it into 4x4.
Can you shift it from 2x4 to 4x4 while on the fly or do you have to stop to shift it?
Also was wondering if you need to come to a stop before shifting into the diff lock mode.

I'm confused because the dealer told me it can be shifted on the fly, but a competiters ad claims that it can't and so that makes their product better.

Any Grizz owners that can clarify this for me?

You can change from 2wd to 3x4 on the fly but you have to stop when putting it in 4x4 diff lock,because you have limited steering control while in diff lock and its only used in slow no traction situations. Its a safety feature.

Diff lock at 30 mph would be a sure trip to the hospital.

 

The Manual to both my 2006 Rhino and 2008 Grizzly states that for "safety reasons" the machine should be stopped before changing from 2WD to 4WD. The manuals to all of my handguns also say to keep them unloaded and especially do not carry a round in the chamber. I change from 2WD to 4WD "on the go" on both of these machines and contrary to what some say, it does no damage and neither handles differently in 2WD or 4WD or if they do, it is so slight as not to be noticeable. As a previous poster indicated, you do need to stop to engage the front differential lock, but I have rarely had to use mine and you will certainly know in advance if you are going to.

Out of curiosity, I engaged the front differential lock on my Grizzly and with the EPS, it does not handle all that bad, whereas you can really tell a difference with the Rhino.

I have ridden and owned a few ATV's including a Polaris AWD and I choose the Grizzly over all of them. I would advise riding as many as you can and make up your own mind and don't listen to dealers either Yamaha or others. Heck, don't even pay any attention to me.

 

Oh, and an unloaded handgun is a very expensive and not very effective club, so I didn't do that when I carried one on the job and don't do it now that I am retired either.
