Default 98 450 foreman ES shifting problems

help anyone?

I have a 98' foreman 450 ES, and I am by no means mechanical.
About 2 months ago, my bike started developing problems with my Electric Shift. periodically, when I was riding, I would lose the speed indicator, and then the gear indicator would go blank, with 2 dashed lines appearing and I am no longer able to shift gears. I have gone through the manual, and it is saying that this is the bike saying, "okay, there's a problem here, so I am going go into a safe mode." Turn the bike off, turn it back on again, walk the gears back to nuteral, and you can start it again and away you go. It may happen again in 5 seconds, 5 minutes or 5 days.

There is no constant to why it happens, ie. weather, speed, heat, conditions, etc
I always lose the speedo first, then the shifter.

Is this the speed sensor??

any help is appreciated!
Thanks
