I have a 1984 trx200sx that when I use the pull start rope it turns the starter also which makes it very hard to start. I have had the gears out and can not see any reason why this is happening. Does anyone have any information as to why this is hapening? I am concerned that if I use the electric starter that it will do some damage In this condition. I have removed the starter gear so I can use the atv.

Are you sure of the year and model ..


On a 1984 TRX200 there is a oneway clutch on the flywheel for the electric starter that uses 3 rollers , I would guess 1 or more are stuck or jammed ..

Honda didn't make the TRX200SX until 1986 and they used a sprag clutch (oneway clutch) for the electric starter ...

 

Your absolutely right! It is a 1986. I miss read the tag. I will have to pull the flywheel and check out the one way clutch. Thank You again for your help.
