Need advice on rear sprocket - can I reuse it for 1 day?
#1
I got my 12T front and 45T rear and a new O-ring chain yesterday. This was to replace the stock set up that was still on it when I got it. Well...I just learned that a 45T will not fit the rear of my 88! The sprocket slides onto the hub, but there is not enough clearance for the chain to clear the rear guard. I am in a real jam b/c I am suppose to ride this Saturday and no one (I called like 10+ places today) has a rear sprocket on hand...and since tomorrow is turkey day, there is no way I can have one here by Friday night. Question is....if I just 'reuse' the rear sprocket for 1 day - probaby only 3-4 hours of actual riding...will it hurt anything, especially my new chain? Its a nice Renthal O-ring chain, so I would hate to ruin it right away. I know the chain/sprockets wear a pattern, etc....but I think I would be safe for no more time that I would be 'reusing' it. What do you fine folks think?

I thought of that...but I just realized I made another rookie mistake. I thought my warrior was 98 links stock. I ordered a 100 link...but found out the 87-88 warriors are 100 links stock. So my chain is too short for a 45T rear anyway.
Besides, it actually had a 40T on the rear (I thought it was a 42T), so going from a 13T/40T to a 12T/45T was probably too much gearing anyway. I suspect I will like the 12T/40T combo anyway. So now its just a matter of sending that 45T back and getting a stock 40T replacement.

Using the old srocket will be fine. 12/40 gearing is good gearing for stump pulling and hill climbing. I think 12/45 gearing would have been WAY too low anyway.

if you want a lower ratio, you don't have to change both output drive gear and axle driven gear, one tooth less on small output drive gear is the same as three teeth more on big driven axle gear......
