Bought my first atv... didn't have a winch so I'm installing a Superwinch ATV2500. Apparently I can't use the pre-wired Polaris cables, since I only see a red cable near the battery that isn't hooked up - and that's it.

So, that being said, I have the winch mounted, the solenoid mounted, and the handlebar switch mounted. Everything is wired to the corresponding color coded terminals, EXCEPT for the RED wire coming from the handlebar switch. It says to splice this with the BROWN/BLUE wire coming from the ignition, but I don't see a BROWN/BLUE wire coming from the ignition... there's a Brown wire?.. Would that be the one I splice this red wire with?

Right now, when I try to hook the red and black wires up to the battery (the old black and red - along with the new black and red from the solenoid) it sparks... big time. Not sure where this is coming from, but could use whatever help I can get.

Does anyone have a download link to a repair manual for the '06 700? or something close to that? I looked all over and searched everywhere, but I haven't found ONE manual. Even the old ones that were posted on here are no longer available.

Any assistance would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
J

there should be a oragne wire or maybe red/white in the pod that has a rubber end over it that is a power wire w/ the key on. does your contacter have 4 post(nuts) where the 2 cables go to the winch and 2 to the battery? should be a +for positive and a - for negitive for the 2 cables to the battery. the other 2 cables are for the forward and reverse that mount to the winch. hope this helps.

Yes, it does. I'll try using the red/orange wire with the rubber end and see if that works for the switch wire. I couldn't find a wiring diagram anywhere. (at least one that had color on it - did find a schematic)

There are 4 posts on the solenoid, the yellow and blue(go to the winch), and a red and white(go to the battery. In addition to these 4 posts, there are 3 lead wires, 2 black and one green (one black and green go to the rocker switch - the other black just goes up to the black post on the solenoid). I'm thinking I'm making a short somewhere, but not sure where. Could it be this red wire from the switch?

I'm gonna go out in the garage and check it out right now.

Thanks for your help and I'll post back.

just make sure if they arent color coded that they say which is for pos.(red) and assuming the white would be the ground(negitive). the blue and yellow cant really be messed up if you hook them directly to the winch. make sure there isnt any bare wire contact from these wires to the frame or they cant rub and chaffe later on. not sure why you would have 2 black wires w/ the green one that hooks to the rocker switch. just make sure you dont have a positive(power wire) hooked or touching the grounding wires/cables. do you have directions to the contacter(solnoide) showing where the extra black wire goes?

Wow.. I'm losing it. I meant to say Yellow, Blue, Red, and BLACK... not white. And yes it does say where it connects to in the directions, one of the black lead wires just loops up to the top black post... Not sure why they didn't just make this connection internally.

I just took some pictures so I'll jump on my other pc and post them for you to look at.

There were 2 red/orange wires hanging out below the pod. 1 was actually 2 wires spliced with a rubber end, the other seemed to be a square connector at the end of it.

Also, you can see how filthy this guy left this thing. What is the best way to clean the dirt off this thing. The plastic looks good, but the engine, frame, shocks, and wiring are covered.

Can I take a pressure washer to this?

It's hard to tell if it was beaten on... I figured it only had 68 hours on it and 640 miles it can't be too bad. Anythings to look for?

I think I should definitely change all the fluids.
