Polaris Pheonix 200 or Kymco Mongoose 250
#1
The wife wants to start riding with me and our sons. Mostly recreational riding on the weekends. I've narrowed it down to these two models, due to comparable prices and both have auto transmissions. I'm kinda leaning towards the Kymco which I think gets more bang for the buck, but the pink Pheonix has caught her eye. What does everybody think would be best for a new adult rider?

Dirt wheels just did a test on the pink Phoenix, their main gripe was poor power/weight, it is really a 196cc, pulling almost 375 lbs of quad, add all liquids, and rider, and you are looking at almost 500 lbs fully loaded, pretty heavy for a 196cc motor. Kymco has really been bringing up the quality control the last few years, they have a 500cc 4x4, and a Rhino 500cc clone out as well. As long as you can get parts/ service for the Kymco, if the price is good, the extra cc's might be nice.

What about a used quad of some sort? Maybe a nice smaller utility, like the Eiger or Big Bear.
I've seen a few Kymcos, they don't seem to bad, I know Dicks ATV sells them.

Thanks for the replies,
She doesn't like utility quads. I offered to give her mine, so I could get a new one, but she wants a small sporty quad without gears. I think were gonna go with the Kymco based on all the information that I have gotten it does seem to be the better machine. The local Kawasaki dealer sells them, and they come with a 1 year warranty.
I don't care to buy used. You never know what your getting. I've seen what some people do to their machines.

Anyone who's spent 10 minutes watching youtube ATV videos thinks twice about buying used.
You know why it's called KYMCO? Because you probably wouldn't buy it if the whole name was on it, Kwang Yang Motor CO.

Thanks for the reply,
The Polaris Pheonix is made in Taiwan by a company named Aeon, just tagged with the Polaris name plate. So all things considered: water cooled, more cc's, better warranty, and LT80's good review, I'm think I'm gonna give the Kwang Yang a try. (it's actually less expensive by a couple bucks too)
The Kawasaki dealer also showed me that Kymco makes the Kawasaki 50 and 90 atv's for Kawasaki. I wonder how many others arn't made by the company who has their name badge on the plastics?

I think all brands of kids quads are made in China or Taiwan and the big brand makers slap their names on them. If it's something a kid will outgrow in a couple of years, it doeesn't have to be made to last. For an adult I think it's worth spending more on something better. Maybe KYMCO IS good but I've never known anyone who owned one and never seen one on the trails. None of the ATV dealers I go to who sell the big 7 brands sells them either. All I know about them is what people on the forum say.
P.S. I'd take a 250 over a 200 any day, no matter what brand they are. Neither one has enough power for me but at least the the 250 would have more than the 200.
