Default Just bought Used 2002 polaris need your advise !

Hi All members I just bought a used polaris Sportsman 2002 400cc shaft drive
what would you suggest I do maintance wise to protect this ATV
IE< Change coolant, use synthetic oils, change oils in differentals etc
Are there any spesific things I should watch for with this model.
It is in extreemly nice condition no scratches or bangs a it has 856 miles on it.

Manufacturer, recomends synthetic oils, I would change the oils just for piece of mind, check the antifreeze for strength,do you have the owners manual, a service manual is also handy.

Ya, I would change all fluids and the spark plug. That way you have an exact start point to do your maintance from. These bikes had a weird noise coming from the engine which Polaris says is normal.

Changing all fluids to start-out fresh is a very good idea.

That way not only are all your fluids fresh but you can also examine what the old fluids look like!

There are some extra steps involved doing the engine oil change so becareful to do it the right way. Where's that owner's manual of yours? Read it! LOL!

You only need to burp the oil line if you change the oil by the book and disconnect the oil line from oil tank to check the screen. The best thing I ever did with my ATV like that was silicon the pull rope handle in place. Dirty water will get by the handle and enter the recoil, were expensive parts that do no like to get wet lurk such as Stator,Pulse coil and Bendix drive.

Also grease the grease and there lots of them, easier to grease parts then change them. I can tell it has low miles because you still have its stock P Tracker tires on it. Dont forget the AWD fliud in the two front Hubs also.
