Default 97 warrior - cold weather - idle no start when gassed

hey guys...call me a newb but i need some help please. I have a 97 yamaha warrior 4 stroke 350 w/ electric start. We just purchased it used and it is my first quad. Took it for several test rides and recently brought it to yamaha to get it looked over. The dealer flushed the brake lines, changed th plug, air filter, fuel filter, and pretty much everything you could do to a used quad to make it perform optimally.

We just picked it up in about 40 degree weather...drove about an hour with it on the back of the truck. My borther was anxious to ride it so started it up. With full choke it started right up with the electric start...let it warm up for about 5 minutes and then put it to half choke...let it warm up another minute or so and jumped on to ride. Honestly i am not sure if he pushed the choke all the way in but he says he did. He took it around the block a few times and it rode great. He turned it off and started it back up...again he choked it.... it would start and the backfire.

He then tried to start it again and it will idle but as soon as you give it any throttle it puts and turns off... it will not let you give it any gas at all. This has brand new filters and plug... Where should i start and what could have fouled? too much gas i assume? Where should i start...took the air filter off and it smells like gas.

vacume leak? check the carb mounting bolts make sure there tight, check the adapter between the carb and the cylinder head make sure it is not cracked, spray around the adapter with some carb cleaner while it is running and see if the idle speed changes , check to make sure your air cleaner box is attached to the carb, I recently got a 93 warrior had kinda the same problem when I got it, it was missing the seal between the carb adapter and the cylinder head (rubber o ring)
put new seal in there now it runs like a greased pig on fire

yaawwnn. Check the parking brake sensors and/or jiggle the parking brake mechanism at the clutch perch. When the parking brake is applied, the rev limiter is engaged. The parking brake sensors are junk - they get screwed up and think the parking brake is applied when it is not. You can do a search on this websire, there are PLENTY of topics on how to bypass the sensors if they are faulty.

if your brother didnt push in the choke and you had a vaccume leak, this would account for it rideing normally for the first time. it could be you didnt let it warm up enough... if some mechines are cold the will only idol until they warm up, any gas and the put and die. a vac-leak soundls logical though.

my advice, ALWAYS double check the work you have someone else preform on your things. remember for most people its an 8-to-5, for you its your investment/toy. check for air leaks ect.

welcome to the fourm!

thanks for the help guys... i screwed around with the parking brake and did not find anything different... i started rocking the bike back and forth to get it in first and it started allowing some power through. I got it to start revving when it was put in first. It did not pull at all until the the clutch was almost completely let out and then it would get power. The bike will not ride fine but at low rpms the motor still sputters and puts. Messing with the idle and it idles better now but it still spits pretty bad on occasion. If it starts to sputter i let out the clutch in gear and it gains power back again as the gear grips.
