Default electric starter 83 200e big red

83 honda atc 200e

when i got the bike the electric start was not working. it was a wiring issue.
so i fixed that but still did not have a battery so i did not use it. just started it with the pull start.

well i got a battery for my birth day.
when i push the start button you can hear the starter motor spin but the bike motor does not....
what should i do/look for.

today i took the pull start off and the other thing that is held on with three 8 mm bolts then i took off all the 8 mm bolts that hold on the black cover that covers the where the starter slides in to. but i can seem to get that cover off. the only thing that i can see that might still need to come off is the crank bolt.

any ideas

Yea. You have to take that bolt in the center of the crank to remove the plate. Then all the starter gears are exposed.

Should be regular thread, the manual doesn't say otherwise. I made a crank holder out of some scrap aluminum. I drilled a hole in the center big enough for the socket to fit through, then a couple of small holes for the pull starter cage bolts to secure it to the crank. I didn't have an impact at the time. I'm sure that would work too.
While you have it this far apart, might want to check your front sprocket and replace it if needed.
